Dale Hoegh

Dale Hoegh, age 93, of Aurora, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m, Friday, Jan. 4 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg.  Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Dale Eugene Hoegh was born on Dec. 2, 1925 at Aurora to Erhardt Andrew and Agnes Christina (Johnson) Hoegh and passed away in Aurora, on Dec. 31, 2018, at the age of 93.
He attended District 81 Country School through the eighth grade and two years of high school at Aurora.  He spent a short time in the U.S. Army in 1945 and 1946.

Sheila Wallace

Sheila Marie Wallace, 46, of Aurora, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island. Pastor Gene Arnold will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Sheila was born on May 14, 1972, at Kearney, the daughter of Dennis L. and Brigitte H. (Hedler) Wallace. She grew up in Kearney where she attended Kearney Public Schools and graduated from Kearney High School.
In 2001, she moved to Aurora, where she lived the rest of her life.
She was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Grand Island and competed in swimming, bowling and track in the Special Olympics for a number of years.

Barbara Ostrander

Barbara Ostrander, age 78, of Aurora, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday. Barbara Adline Ostrander, the daughter of Henry Lee and Jennie Lucille (Burnworth) DeLong Sr., was born in Omaha, on March 13, 1940 and passed away in Lincoln, on Dec. 28, 2018, at the age of 78.
Barbara grew up in Omaha and received her education there.  She moved to the Aurora area in 1975, and worked for Lippincott Ind., the Hamilton Manor, Memorial Community Care and Memorial Hospital.

Ramona Maw, age 92, formerly of Giltner, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at the Hearthstone in York.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28 at the Christian Resource Center, 603 South K Road, Giltner. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Dorothy Purdy, 104, of Phillips, passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Phillips. Rev. Greg Reed will officiate. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery. Dorothy Pearl Purdy, the daughter of Charles and Lela (Dixon) Arnett, was born at Phillips, on Sept. 23, 1914, and passed away at Grand Island, on Dec. 14, 2018, at the age of 104.
She grew up in the Phillips area, where she graduated from Phillips High School in 1934.

Marian Virginia Smith, the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Snodgrass) Earhart, was born in Tama County, Iowa on July 20, 1926 and passed away in Stromsburg, on Dec. 11, 2018, at the age of 92.

Virgil Ray Ackerman

Virgil Ray Ackerman, age 67, of Benedict, passed away Dec. 5, 2018 at his home in Benedict.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Brenda Pfeifly and LeRoy Hoyer officiating. Organist will be Sue Lehn. Musical selections will be “Amazing Grace”, “I Can Only Imagine” and “I Believe.” lnurnment will take place at a later date.
Virgil was born July 23, 1951 to Herbert and Bessie Lucille (Grigsby) Ackerman in Central City. The family lived in Aurora then York before moving to Thayer. Virgil graduated from Centennial High School in 1969.
On Dec. 2, 1971 he was united in marriage to Elaine MarVelle Noyd at York. To this union three children were born. Virgil worked at the Hay Mill, Scott-Hourigan Irrigation and in 1981 began working with Northern Agri Services where he worked as a welder until his passing.
He enjoyed family, grandchildren, mowing, woodworking and trips to Walmart.

Lawrence E. “Curly” Penner, age 95, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.

Lawrence E. “Curly” Penner, the son of Fred W. and Genevieve (Austin) Penner, was born in Stockham, on Feb. 9, 1923 and passed away in Aurora, on Dec. 5, 2018, at the age of 95.

A.E. “Gene” Van Wie M.D., 84, of Grand Island passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.
Visitation for Gene will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Fr. Robert Lewis officiating. Burial to follow at Grand Island City Cemetery.  Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force and United Veterans Honor Guard.
Gene was born on Nov. 21, 1935 in Indianola, IA, only son of Peter A. and Karna (Juline) Van Wie.
Gene moved with his parents to Norfolk, North Platte until settling in Grand Island where he graduated with the Grand Island High School class of 1953. He continued his education and went on to attend University of Nebraska at Lincoln from 1953 to 1956 for his undergraduate degree. On Nov. 19, 1960 in Grand Island he was united in marriage to Connie Joy Underberg of Broken Bow.

Darleen Senff

Darleen Senff, 90 of York passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, northeast of Hampton. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at Metz Mortuary in York. The family will meet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.
Metz Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
Darleen Dorothy Senff was born on Dec. 4, 1927 to Carl and Clara (Wellman) Apetz on a farm southeast of York. She attended St. John Lutheran School south of Waco. She moved with her parents to York in March 1938. She then went to York Schools.
