Two resolutions approved to aid in abandoned cemetery funding

According to Hamilton County Veteran’s Service Officer Mike Irons, state statute dictates that in order to expend county funds on the preservation or upkeep of an abandoned cemetery, there must be approval first from the county board.
This was part of Iron’s goal in visiting the board during its regular Monday meeting. He began his presentation to commissioners by explaining that both of the resolutions before them had received their required 35 signatures and were ready for the next steps.
“I was hoping to have a little more of a robust package to present to you on the history,” he reported. “But I started going down the rabbit hole, per say, because there is a lot of conflicting of information out there -- with the oral histories or any other histories and with the timeline that I was on, then COVID-19 kind of hit.”
