Detasslers take to local fields, despite COVID threat

As the corn grows taller and the days get hotter a familiar sight can be found in the fields surrounding Hamilton County -- detasselers.
Not even a pandemic can stop these students from working to do their part in the cycle of production. Jeremy Dubas, field manager with WoffCo, noted that a lot of planning and extra steps have been put into place to ensure student safety this year.
“Number one, our kids are on the same consistent bus every day,” he explained. “If we do have a kid test positive we can contact those kids who may be exposed.”
He found that more preplanning had to be done this year than in years past with Brandon Timm taking on extra safety work to accommodate the necessary changes.
