Cruisin’ with a cause

Downtown Aurora tore a page from the past Saturday with a steady stream of cars “Cruisin’ the Square” as a response to restrictive COVID-19 social distancing protocol.
Despite a steady rain, teachers lined the street in parked cars, smiling to students passing by, while people of all ages honked and waved, stirring nostalgia from many who enjoyed this weekly ritual back in their day.
“With Aurora’s specific history of how so many of us grew up socializing that way we thought it would be the perfect fit to revitalize our community,” said Sara Sutherland, interim president of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. “Cruisin’ and Chuck’s Drive-In was such a popular thing back in the 70s and 80s, and even through the 90s that’s what we did together on the weekend. It was really fun to see so many people get out and enjoy this.”
