The Huskies placed three wrestlers in the semifinals during first day action at the state wrestling tournament in Omaha.

Caden Svoboda at 106, Trevor Kluck at 138 and Brekyn Papineau all picked up two victories Thursday to advance to Friday night's semifinals.

Svoboda never really found himself in trouble Thursday, defeating Cash Duncan of Seward by 13-2 decision and picked up an 11-4 win over Tristen Obermiller of Adams Central to earn a spot in the semis. Svoboda will face Zachery Ourada of Omaha Skutt.

It wasn't that easy for Kluck, who was on upset alert through most of his quarterfinal matchup.

In fact, the only time Kluck led his match against Hank Frost of Blair was when he won the match in overtime.

Frost recorded a nearfall in the second period to lead 3-0 before Kluck scored a reversal early in the third, making it 3-2.

From there, Kluck gave up an escape before scoring a takedown with 40 seconds left before regulation time ran out.

In extra time, the Husky junior scored a takedown eight seconds in to keep his undefeated season and state title hopes alive. Kluck will face Nate Rocheleau of Gering Friday night.

Things were fairly uneventful for Papineau with a pair of decision victories to qualify for the semifinals. Papineau will face Damen Pape of Hastings in the semis.

Jeremy Oswald was the other Husky to make the quarterfinals at 113, but lost by pinfall to Grady Arends of GINW.

Oswald as well as Kolby Wessels, Mack Owens, Kole Fiala and Aaron Jividen will battle back Friday morning for a chance to medal.

As a team, Aurora currently sits in 7th place with 27 points. Hastings leads Class B with 64.
