AMS principal Thiele to retire

Long-time Aurora Middle School principal Ken Thiele submitted a letter to the 4R board, announcing his plans to retire at the end of the present school year. His wishes were met with regrets from all school board members.
In a heartfelt letter to the board, administration and Supt. Damon McDonald, Thiele took a moment to reflect on his tenure at Aurora. He echoed these thoughts in a brief interview Tuesday morning.
“In 1992, Supt. Dr. Don Burling and the board of education took a chance when they hired me to take over as principal of the Aurora Middle School at the age of 29,” he said. “Prior to my hire, Dr. Burling spoke with me about the tradition-rich history of the Aurora community as well as the expectations of the school.
