At first glance, Keaton Van Housen and the University of Nebraska-Kearney football team are a perfect fit.

In 2019, the Lopers rushed for more than 4,000 yards on its way to a 7-5 record and a Mineral Water Bowl championship. They've now added one of Nebraska's best 8-man backs in recent history.

Van Housen made it official Wednesday, signing with UNK to continue his academic and football career with the Lopers.

The High Plains senior was on full display for the state in 2019 for the Stormdogs. Van Housen carried the ball 302 times for 2,283 yards and 34 touchdowns. He rushed for more than 100 yards 10 of OHP's 13 games and averaged 175.6 yards en route to a Class D1 state championship.

In all, Van Housen is a career 5,000-yard rusher with nearly 700 carries and 77 touchdowns while crossing the 100-yard plateau in 23 of his 39 high school games.

He's also been a threat in the return game over the years, scoring four touchdowns on kick return during his sophomore season alone as well as a punt and defensive touchdowns.

Van Housen was a three-sport athlete for High Plains, competing in basketball as well as several high marks at the state track meet over the years.
