Hampton considering vacant property registry

The Hampton village board is considering a proposal to work with a Kearney-based firm to help create a process to improve vacant properties or force action through legal means to get them back on the tax rolls.
Bobbi Pettit, who helped the Hampton board implement a nuisance abatement ordinance several years ago while working for the South Central Economic Development District, made a 30-minute presentation Monday as the owner of her own consulting firm, Five Rule Rural Planning. Pettit commended the board for taking action six years ago, but noted that some of the properties identified as vacant are still in various stages of disrepair.
