Late free throws carry Lady Hornets to road victory

With the game on the line, a youthful Giltner girls basketball team rose to the occasion.
The Lady Hornets knocked down four free throws in the final 10 seconds to defeat Nebraska Lutheran in Waco 29-25 Dec. 17.
Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon shared after the victory that while the Lady Hornets won it at the free throw line, they also let a lead get away. However, an ugly win is better than losing.
“We made free throws when we needed to, definitely,” Lockmon noted. “We let a four-point lead slip away, too. It went both ways and we knew it was going to be a scrappy game. It wasn’t going to be pretty but I told the kids at halftime I’d rather win ugly than lose. We fought, scrapped and played hard.”
