They did it.

In their final game as one team, the Osceola-High Plains Stormdogs won the Class D1 state championship with a 40-34 win over Burwell Monday at Memorial Stadium.

At one point, OHP led the game 40-14 before a ferocious second half comeback from Burwell came up one score short.

On a fourth and two from the OHP 22, Burwell fumbled for the sixth time in the game as the Stormdogs recovered with 1:34 left. Dylan Soule picked up a first down on the ground to seal the victory.

OHP was led on offense by Soule, who carried the ball 23 times for 145 yards and four total touchdowns.

Keaton Van Housen was limited throughout the game with a deep thigh bruise but totaled 71 yards on 17 carrries and a touchdown.

OHP finishes the season with an 11-2 record after starting the season 1-2. As of the next two-year cycle, Osceola and High Plains will go back to playing on their own.
