State test scores ‘just one piece of the puzzle’ in Hampton

Results are in for statewide assessment tests conducted last spring, though some area school officials are contemplating what exactly those results mean and how they will be utilized to improve instruction at the local level.
Hampton Supt. Holly Herzberg reported that the Nebraska Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS) is ultimately just one piece of the puzzle used to make sure students at Hampton Public Schools are getting the best education possible.
“I want to put emphasis and importance of this, but we also want to know we keep the big picture of what we do day to day as our priority,” Herzberg said. “We do a lot with our MAP data, which is more timely and can guide our teachers’ instruction. We probably put more emphasis on that than our state assessments. This is just one piece of the puzzle.”
