PPRI greenhouse a learning, living lab

While collecting wild seed is a core component of the Prairie Plains Resource Institute’s restoration program, so too is an on-site greenhouse that allows the staff to grow their own prairie seedling plugs for pollinator gardens or to enhance existing prairies.
Sarah Bailey started working with what was then a new greenhouse when she joined the nonprofit organization in 2010, and has since seen it grow in scope and size.
“Initially we focused on growing plants that might not come into a restoration site as easily so we could enhance some of those projects,” Bailey said. “That way we could have wildflowers and different plants that we don’t get a lot of seed for.”
