Robert ‘Les’ Valentine, age 70, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at his home after a two year battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Rev. Bob Gannon will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Robert Leslie ‘Les’ Valentine was born in York, on May 27, 1949 to Robert Ellsworth Valentine and Eva Ruth (Runyan) Valentine.  He was named ‘Les’ after an uncle who was killed in a plane crash near the time of his parents wedding date.  He passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, Sept. 30, 2019 after a 2 year battle with cancer at the age of 70.
He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1967, it was the Vietnam War Era.  He attempted to enlist in the Air Force and the Army at that time and was rejected by both due to an injured knee from playing football in high school.
During his growing years he was in Boy Scouts, played in Aurora Midgets baseball, played football in high school and participated in boxing.  He truly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his Dad, Grandad, Uncles and Brothers.
Les was married to Beverly Ann Goertzen on Aug. 16, 1970 at Aurora.  Les always lived in Aurora.  He worked at BonnaVilla and at the school as a custodian, groundskeeper and bus driver.  Les then drove a truck until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert John Valentine, an infant sister Teresa, sister, Nancy Julene Bieck, two nieces, Pamela Valentine and Jovanna Becker, one nephew Jeffery Goertzen and his parents.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; two daughters, Mary Valentine of Aurora and Amy Westover of Sutton, son-in-law Christopher Westover;  7 grandchildren, Sawyer Valentine, Aaron and Austin Benaivdz, Shay, Kaetlyn and Jonathan Westover, and Grace Smedra; 3 brothers, Thomas (Marsha) Valentine of Hastings, Stuart (Karen) Valentine of Omaha and Jerry Valentine of Aurora, sisters and brothers in law, Sharon Becker (Todd Lingo), Francis (Mike) Wilson, Neil Bieck and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much.
