Allen makes wave on special teams

Something about playing in Memorial Stadium at night brings out the best in the Huskers. That was on display Saturday night.

The Big Red did just about everything in a 44-8 win over Northern Illinois to move to 2-1 on the season.

Among those making big plays was former Aurora Husky Austin Allen, who was active on special teams for the Huskers. The redshirt sophomore recovered a fumble off a blocked NIU punt and later in the game, sniffed out a fake punt by Northern Illinois, tackling the punter a yard short of a first down. He also had a chance to score a touchdown off a second blocked punt go through his fingers -- literally. Allen also recovered a fumble from fellow tight end Jack Stoll in the second half to keep possession and eventually score.
