Local farmers get hail management tips at SCAL field day

Everyone knows that Nebraska weather is sudden and unpredictable. Mother Nature deals devastation in many forms and an all too common one for the area is hail.
Nebraska Extension’s Justin McMechan spoke to a crowd of more than 30 farmers Aug. 1 during the South Central Agriculture Lab (SCAL) field day about what to do if their fields had gone through a hail storm.
“I’m going to walk you through the National Crop Insurance Service guidelines,” he said. “Evaluating hail damage is tricky, but you can kind of give yourself a precursor knowledge of what you might expect.”
