Disease management in corn, soybeans help farmers prepare

Farmers and industry members who attended the South Central Agricultural Lab (SCAL) Field Day Aug. 1 were treated to tips on how to recognize, report and treat some new and familiar diseases that are entering the area.
Extension plant pathologist Tamra Jackson-Ziems led the discussion by first talking about one of the issues plaguing corn -- southern rust.
“I bet a lot of you already heard the ugly words, southern rust, and that just makes your hair stand up a little bit, doesn’t it,” Jackson-Ziems said.
