Aurora senior Maya Nachtigal had a last-minute change of heart and signed a letter of intent to continue her academic as well as cross country and track and field career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha Friday afternoon.

Nachtigal wasn't planning on competing in athletics anywhere at the next level until further success her senior season on both the cross country course and the track helped change her mind that she wasn't ready to give the sports up.

The Lady Husky senior was part of Aurora's back-to-back state championship seasons in cross country in 2016 and 2017 as well as its track title in 2017.

Nachtigal finished 7th as a senior at state cross country alongside finishes of 8th as a junior and 15th as a sophomore.

Her recent track success has been hard to ignore, being named the most outstanding girls athlete last month at the Central Nebraska Track Championships with wins in the 1600, 3200 and the 3200 relay. She will compete at state next week in the 3200 and on the 3200 relay.
