Griffith breaks Aurora school record

Aurora senior Riley Griffith was all smiles following the Central Conference meet at Columbus Lakeview Saturday, winning the shot put and snapping a 29-year school record in the process.

Griffith tossed a 45-02 that not only earned her a conference gold medal, but bested Dawn Arent's mark of 44-07.50, a record that was set in 1990. Before Saturday, Griffith sat third in Aurora's all-time list. The senior also finished third in the discus.

Also winning at the Central Conference meet was Kyla Carlson in the 400, doing so in a time of 60.57.

Unfortunately for the Aurora girls, they came up just short in the team race, losing by one point to Grand Island Northwest to finish as Central Conference runners-up.

The Huskies will compete at the B-5 district meet in Lexington Thursday.
