Aurora outlasts Wahoo in overtime thriller

For the third time in as many games, Aurora and Wahoo showed off for both allegiances of fans, but it was the Huskies who again came out on top. However, Friday night on the basketball floor, there was enough late-game drama that had the momentum swinging on virtually every possession.

Baylor Scheierman, who led the Huskies with 27 points and 13 rebounds, took charge in the overtime period with a three-pointer followed by an emphatic slam dunk that gave Big Red a 75-70 lead as Aurora held on for a 76-74 win on the road in Wahoo that stamped itself as a game of the year candidate just two nights into the season.

The Huskies led for most of the night until the late stages of the fourth when they fell behind by as much as 66-61 with 2:33 to play. Cade Reichardt put the team on his back to tie the game back up and even give Aurora a late lead before a free throw from Scheierman sent the game to overtime.

Wahoo trailed by two with four seconds left and an inbounds play on its side of the floor. Blake Lacy missed a game-winning three pointer while Winston Cook was unsuccessful on the potential game-tying putback as Reichardt came down with the rebound when the final horn sounded.

Behind Scheierman's 27 points was Reichardt with 18 and Nick Hutsell added 16 tough points in the paint.

Aurora will be on the road again next weekend, traveling to Columbus Lakeview Friday night and Central City Saturday.
