John H. Green, age 93, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Evangelical Covenant Church.  John’s nephew, Rev. Glenn Palmberg, will officiate along with Rev. Karl Larson.  Private family inurnment will be prior to the service at Richland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
John Henry Green, the son of Joseph Cornelius and Lois Olive (Dixon) Green, was born two miles south of Marquette, on Sept. 19, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on Nov. 21, 2018, at the age of 93.
John’s mother died of pneumonia when he was 18 months old.  His father’s half-brothers and half-sister, Charles, Alfred and Anna Green took him into their home southwest of Marquette, where he resided until 1984.
John attended District #89, west of Marquette and graduated from Marquette High School in 1943.   He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1945 and after six months was assigned to the U.S. Zone Constabulary in Occupied Germany through March 1947.
John came to faith in Jesus Christ Sept. 4, 1953, at his home, subsequently joining the Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora.  He taught Sunday School and led Bible studies for many years.
On Jan. 29, 1955, he married Linnea Lea Ebert in Aurora.  Daughter Paula was born in Dec. 1955 and son David in June 1957.  They continued to live on the farm until 1984, when they moved to Aurora.  Linnea passed away on April 15, 1992.
After working in the church office for a time, John became Assistant Director of the Plainsman Museum in Aurora.  He thoroughly enjoyed his work there from 1987 through January of 2007.  He was a member of Gideons Intl. and served his community on the Marquette School Board, Richland and Siloah Cemetery boards and the Hamilton County Historical Society.
John was preceded in death by his parents; those who raised him, Charles, Alfred and Anna Green; his wife, Linnea and a half-brother, Lee Green.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Paula (John) Hewen of Aurora; son, David (Denise) Green of Des Plaines, Illinois; granddaughter, Britney (Noe) Coliz of Rockford, Illinois; three grandsons, Ryan Green of Chicago, Illinois, Bryce Hewen of Denver, Colorado, Gabriel Hewen of Lincoln; step-granddaughter, Ashley Muller of Oslo, Norway; five great-grandchildren, Autumn and Jeremiah Green, Cristian Vigilio, Sebastian and Gabriel Coliz; sister-in-law, Jo (Darryl) Meyer of Albert Lea, Minnesota and other family and friends.
