Giltner's state aspirations dashed in five-set thriller

The D1-5 district final was as exciting as it was nerve-wracking. No. 5 seed Nebraska Christian danced with No. 12 seed Giltner in Aurora and it was the Lady Eagles who stood on top after five sets to punch a ticket to next week's state tournament in Lincoln with match scores of 25-23, 13-25, 25-13, 21-25 and 15-10. Giltner's season comes to an end with a 22-9 overall record.

Giltner forced a fifth set and it was Nebraska Christian who asserted themselves early on, taking a 5-1 lead and eventually an 11-4 advantage. The Lady Hornets fought off three match points but the gap was too much to overcome.

For a second straight year, there will be zero area teams represented at the state tournament in Lincoln.
