Detasseling starts, ends early for this season’s workers

The 2018 detasseling season, a usual two to three week process, is currently in its final stages of clean up and for some, already complete.
“Usually, we’re done in about an 18 to 20 day range,” said Bill Hunter, Syngenta Seeds plant manager.
In past years, detasseling got its start around mid-July and ended towards the end of the month or the beginning of August. Apart from the typical, this year the process started even sooner for almost everyone involved due to unusually early warm temps, early planting and the high amount of rain received -- all key players in making corn grow.
