Naomi Ione Andrews

On July 18, 2018, Naomi Ione Andrews passed away at home with her husband of 67 years at her side. Per Naomi’s wishes, her body was donated for research and will be cremated at the completion of study. Services will be held at a later date.
Naomi Umbenhower was born in Giltner, to Lester and Grace (Lansden) Umbenhower.  As a child, Naomi wasn’t afraid of anything and was always up to a challenge even when it was a dare to ride her little red wagon down the roof of the barn. Fortunately, her mom intervened and Naomi lived to see another day.
Naomi attended school in Phillips, where she and her brother Bob Umbenhower became great friends with another brother and sister, Thelma and Bob Andrews. These friendships resulted in two marriages: Thelma Andrews to Bob Umbenhower and on October 29, 1950 Naomi Umbenhower married Bob Andrews.
Naomi and Bob were blessed with 4 children and these kids were her treasures.  She was 100% supportive of them. Always.
Naomi loved to cook and if it was cold outside, she always had a pot of soup on the wood burning stove. Holidays included homemade noodles on mashed potatoes.  She loved to craft and the Barbie furniture she made decades ago is still being used to this day.
Naomi always said when Bob retired, so did she, so they sold their home in Phillips, almost all their belongings and headed south.  Casa Grande, Arizona has been home for the past 25 years where Naomi loved to line dance, feed the road runners, grow blooming cactus and model at the annual fashion show.  They made the rounds back through Nebraska every summer until their last trip in 2016 when her poor health no longer allowed the long drive.
Naomi is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Grace Umbenhower, brothers Bob and Delmer Umbenhower and granddaughter Kaysie Layne Andrews.
Those left to celebrate her life include husband, Bob Andrews of Casa Grande, AZ; children:  Gary (Laurie) Andrews of Aurora,  Cindy (David) Bowman of Parker, CO, Robin (Doug) Stead of Casa Grande, AZ and Virgil (Bev) Andrews of Grand Island; grandchildren Nicole (Andrew) Fisher of Aurora, Colten (Brittany) Andrews of Mercer Island, WA; Anthony (Quy) Bruce of Jacksonville, NC; Tonya, Trevor and Tanner Andrews of Grand Island; great-grandchildren Mackensie and Micah Fisher of Aurora; Emma Andrews of Mercer Island; and Anthony Bruce of Jacksonville; sisters: Betty Valasek of St. Paul, Cheryl (Kurt) Rector of Casa Grande, AZ and sister-in-law LouAnn Umbenhower of Aurora.
