Phyllis A. (Nelson) Abbott

Phyllis A. (Nelson) Abbott, 78, of Olmsted Township, Ohio and formerly of Aurora, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2017 following a long illness.  Born in Aurora on January 8, 1939, she was the youngest daughter of Harold and Mayme Nelson.  She is survived by husband Frank Abbott, daughters Victoria (Patrick) Kruse, Kathryn (Cliff) Hellberg, granddaughters Alexandra Hellberg, Rachel (Mike) Johns, stepchildren Greg (Lisa) Abbott, Lori (Andy) Gasho, sister Gladys Holz of Central City, several nieces and nephews, grand dogs Sophie Marie Kruse, Floyd Abbott and grand cat Bella Hellberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ken Hoch and sister Doris Oleson.
After living in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania while her husband was in the service, they settled in Ohio where they raised their family.  Though she had not lived in Nebraska for several years, she always considered Nebraska “home”.
Phyllis worked part-time outside the home as a Darkroom Technician for a Cleveland area newspaper for several years, then returned to work full-time as an administrative assistant for Nationwide Insurance Company.  While working for Nationwide, she returned to school and earned her Insurance Agent license – an accomplishment of which both she and her family were very proud.  Following a successful work career, she retired in 2001.
Phyllis enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends in retirement as well as “Friday Morning Club”, volunteering at church and the area food bank, vacationing in Florida and the annual family beach week in Outer Banks, North Carolina. Her girls – daughters and granddaughters, were her pride and joy and she so enjoyed their time together.
She was an active member of the community, was loved by many and is greatly missed by all who knew her.
A graveside memorial will be held at the Aurora Cemetery on Saturday, July 14 at 11 am.
