Turning rivalries into friendships

Aurora’s Cal Narber and Ian Boerkircher spent most of high school wanting to beat guys like McCook’s Zach Schlager, York’s Simon Otte and Crete’s Jonah Weyand.
However, by the time the 60th annual Shrine Bowl game was over Saturday afternoon, they were all like best of friends.
“The whole experience was pretty cool,” Narber said. “Just getting to meet guys that used to be your rivals and work with them.”
The South team held on late for a dramatic 24-21 victory over the North squad at UNK Saturday with a defensive stop following a field goal to go ahead.
