Shrine Bowl has Aurora flavor

Saturday's 60th annual Shrine Bowl game at UNK in Kearney will feature several local ties come kickoff at 2 p.m., with Cal Narber and Ian Boerkircher playing for the South team. Both Narber and Boerkircher expect to see the majority of field time on the defensive side, with Boerkircher playing defensive end and Narber in the secondary, but anything can happen.

The South team will be under the direction of Aurora head coach Kyle Peterson. This will be Peterson's second Shrine Bowl apperance as a coach, also participating in 2011 as an assistant. One of Peterson's selections as an assistant coaches was one of his own -- Tim Elge.

Other coaches for the South team include Reed Manstedt, Crete; Ryan Kearney, Pius X; Rashawn Harvey, Kearney Catholic and Wade Miller, Seward. Miller is coincidentally a 2002 Aurora graduate.

If not making the trip out to Kearney, the game will be broadcasted live on NET.

We'll have coverage from the Shrine Bowl game on our sports Twitter page, @SportsANR, and a full recap from the festivities in the upcoming News-Register.
