International trade agreements vital to Nebraska producers

International trade was a primary topic of discussion at this year’s Governor’s Ag Conference in Kearney. Everyone from panelists to the governor to USDA undersecretary Greg Ibach highlighted the importance of international trade to agriculture in Nebraska.
Former Nebraska ag director Ibach said Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue knows the importance of trade to the farm economy. But at the same time, farmers have said for years that the U.S. could negotiate better trade deals, with lower tariffs from countries that import U.S. goods, or more consistent levels of imports over time.
