Giltner stuffed by FCSH defense

Scoring was at a premium for both Giltner and Falls City Sacred Heart in their Class D2 semifinal matchup Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, but the Irish made enough plays to return to the final.

The Class D-2 No. 1-ranked Irish smothered Giltner for minutes at a time to gain a 42-27 victory.

Although they were held to 11 points at the half, the Hornets made a run for it in the third, using a 12-2 run to cut the Irish lead to 27-23 late in the third. That would be as close as the Hornets could get.

From there, FCSH finished the evening on a 15-4 run to return to the finals and will face Riverside, who defeated Mullen 66-59. Josh Hinrichs led the Hornets with eight points while Beau Craig added seven and Rece Vaught chipped in six.

The Hornets and their eight seniors, Hinrichs, B. Craig, Vaught, Brodi Hansen, Alex Goracke, Rees Lyon, Colton Craig and Will Reeson have one more game to go as they'll play Mullen in a third place game Saturday at Lincoln East beginning at 3 p.m.
