Ethel Johansen

Ethel Johansen, age 92, formerly of Marquette, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg.  Rev. Kristine Schroeder will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date.  Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Ethel M. Johansen, the daughter of Jens and Viola (Lagoni) Christensen, was born on the family farm near Kronborg, on April 22, 1925 and passed away in Aurora, on February 24, 2018, at the age of 92.
She grew up on the family farm near Kronborg.  She received her education at country school District #89.  Ethel spent her time helping her father on the farm.
Ethel was united in marriage to Arvid W. Johansen on May 14, 1949.  Four children were born to this union: Clifford, Wayne, Leslie and Carol.  They lived on a farm near Kronborg, where they farmed until retiring in the late 1980’s.  They raised chickens and delivered eggs to many friends in Aurora.  When they retired they spent time raising their flower gardens. Arvid passed away on August 21, 2006.  Ethel moved to East Park Villa in February 2011.
Ethel was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  She loved making quilts for her family and made sure each of her grandchildren received one.  Ethel enjoyed the times when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come and visit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Alice (Vernon) Higby, nephew Larry Higby, niece, Rachel Brumm and great-granddaughter, Andrea Paige Janda.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Clifford Johansen of Brenham, Texas, Wayne (Mary) Johansen of Marquette, Les (Barb) Johansen of Marquette and Carol (Jim) Harrenstein of Hastings; 10 grandchildren, Pat (Devin) Johansen, Russell (Kierstin) Johansen, Cortney (Jeremy) Driewer, Kayla Johansen, Lindsey (Chase) Hinzmann, Kristan Harrenstein, Tracy (Kenny) Brooks, Alexandrea (Ian) Janda, Andrew Johansen and Jonathan (Lindsey) Johansen and 11 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by brother, Nels (Frances) Christensen and sister, Elvera (Dwight) Willcock and a host of friends and cousins.
