Giltner advances to district final

Two Hamilton County teams converged in Aurora Thursday night for the most important basketball game of the year up to this point.

In a back-and-forth bruising affair, it was the Giltner Hornets who outlasted the Hampton Hawks 49-36 to win the D2-7 subdistrict final matchup.

Giltner never once relinquished the lead, but Hampton made the Hornets work for everything all night long. The Hornets held a 28-16 lead at the half and used a 13-2 run in the third to assert themselves in the second half.

The Hornets were led in scoring by Josh Hinrichs with 16 points while Hampton's Jarrod Shoup scored 14.

Giltner advances to the D2-4 district final Tuesday night where the Hornets will take on Wilcox-Hildreth. The game will be held at Adams Central with tipoff set for 7 p.m. The Hornets are ranked 4th in D2 while Wilcox-Hildreth is 10th in the latest Omaha World Herald ratings.
