Mary E. Land

Mary E. Land, 65, of Trumbull, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family, friends, and animal friends.  Graveside services were, Friday, Nov. 9, at Case Cemetery, in Trumbull.  Dr. Lee Wiegert officiated.  Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.
Mary was born Feb.  12, 1952, in Central City.  She was the son of Marvel and Betty (Grigsby) Land.
Survivors of her immediate family include her husband Charley Moore of Trumbull, uncle Bill Grigsby of Aurora, and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary grew up in Aurora, attending grade school and graduating from Aurora High School in 1970.  She continued her education at Hastings College graduating in 1975 with a P.E. and Musical Education degree.  She taught at ESU for 35 years retiring in 2007.  During her younger years she was a volleyball referee at the high school and college level.   She married Charley Moore on Jan. 28, 1994, at their home in Trumbull.  In her retirement she continued mentoring children by substitute teaching at Giltner High School until the fall of 2017.  Retirement brought another challenge to Mary’s life. That same year she was diagnosed with cancer.  She met this challenge head on fighting for her life for the next 10 years, and fight she did.  It was during those years she completed her bucket list, riding in the Grand Canyon, traveling to Cane Creek, Ariz., and riding the trails by Saguaro Lake.  Mary celebrated her life several weeks ago with a gathering of family and friends.  She was amazed by the turn out of her “teacher friends”, “horse friends”, and “cancer friends”, and so thankful for them all.  Mary will best be remembered for her pickled corn relish, her contagious laugh, and her overwhelming generosity.   She so enjoyed her trail rides, her animal friends, gardening, both flowers and vegetables, and canning her produce.  She was a singing fool….she loved to sing to her family, friends, school children, and on the trail.
She was a member of NSCA, various saddle clubs, and was a member of the church choir.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice for later designation.
