Mullen muscles Giltner out of playoffs

It was a classic gridiron battle of speed vs strength and late Wednesday afternoon Giltner and Mullen fans discovered that strength would overcome.

Mullen, the No. 1 seed in the west bracket of the Class D2 playoffs powered past the high-flying No. 9 seeded Hornets 53-8 in Giltner.

The game turned late in the second quarter as Mullen rattled off 25 points in the final four minutes of the half using three Giltner turnovers to do so.

Mullen's Lane Edis finished the night with 22 carries for 185 yards and five touchdowns. For Giltner, Alex Goracke completed 20 of his 30 throws for 218 yards and a score.

Mullen (10-0) will move on to the quarterfinals and take on Lawrence-Nelson (8-2). Giltner ends its season with a 6-4 mark.
