Maurice Weller

Maurice Weller, age 87, of Aurora, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora.  Rev. Loras Grell will officiate.  Inurnment will be in the Giltner Cemetery at a later date. No Visitation.  Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Maurice Glenn Weller, the son of Max and Mary Louise (Grow) Weller, was born at Gibbon, on December 6, 1929 and passed away in Aurora, on October 9, 2017, at the age of 87.
He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1947.  Maurice attended the Chicago School of Watch Making for two years.  He returned to Nebraska and worked in Ravenna for Furtock Jewelry, as an instrument technician for the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island and at Emerick Jewelry in Grand Island and then Frey Jewelry in Aurora.
On December 29, 1957, Maurice was married to Dorothy Luby at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island. Four children were born to this union: Lisa, Tim, Hiedi and Ami.  In 1963, Maurice opened Wellers Jewelry in Aurora and worked there until he retired in 1995.
Maurice was a member of the Nebraska Jewelers Association, National Watch Makers Association, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Hamilton County Sportsman Club.  Maurice was a member of the National Guard for 39 years.  He last served as Command Sergeant Major.  Maurice was a member of the Enlisted Man’s Association of United States National Guard and charter member of the Enlisted Man’s Association of Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mary Weller and son-in-law, Michael Nelson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Luby Weller of Aurora; four children, Lisa Weller Nelson, Tim (Kimberlee) Weller, Hiedi Weller and Ami Weller; 5 grandchildren, Larce (Maija) Nelson, Mollie (Eric) Steinkamp, Connor (Justin) Grupe, Anthony Weller and Rachael Weller; 6 great-grandchildren, Monroe and Lennon Nelson, Jaden and Greysen Grupe and Kingston and Maddix Steinkamp and many other family members and friends.
