Irene Mae was born on May 6, 1933 to Paul and Agnes (Paulsen) Nielsen in Prairie Island, at her family home.  She attended District 22 on Prairie Island and Central City Public Schools where she graduated in 1951.  While in school she worked at Riley Insurance.
Irene married D.L. (Shorty) Hahn on October 14, 1951.  The couple lived in Central City before moving to Hordville where Shorty managed the Farmer’s Co-op Elevator.  She was a member of Fridhem Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Junior Choir leader, member of the Ladies Aid and Family Fellowship.  She belonged to the Extension Club, the PTA and was involved in many school activities.  She gave piano lessons for years to the local kids.  She and Shorty entertained everyone within a 100-mile radius at their cabin during the 38 years that they enjoyed it.  Irene was famous for her Pancake Recipe which was served to almost everyone.  They moved to Central City in 1977 where Irene joined a Bible study and began attending Heartland Evangelical Church.  Irene was proud to be 100% Dane and was known for her great cooking and baking.  She loved animals, especially her cats. She loved Nebraska Cornhusker sports and every football Saturday would find her decked out all in red, rooting for her team. She loved her family very very much! Also, her many friends, but she especially loved Jesus Christ Her Savior. She now has “Total Peace” worshiping Jesus for Eternity!  Irene will be remembered for her smile, her kind words and her strong belief in Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Shorty; her children, Pauline and Doug; many brother and sister-in-laws; nephews and nieces; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Gordon Nielsen.
