Gladys Marie Anderson

Gladys Marie Anderson, 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Hordville, died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Bickford Senior Living in Grand Island.  Funeral services will be Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Jay Towell officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday.  Burial will be in the Hordville Cemetery.
Gladys was born on December 2, 1932 to Vigo and Wilma (Watkins) Jensen in Merrick County.  She grew up in the Merrick County and Central City area attending school at Central City Public.  Gladys graduated high school in 1950.  She married Richard A. (Dick) Anderson on March 8, 1953 in Central City.  The couple lived a short time in Ralston, before making their home in Hordville in 1959.  After Dick’s passing in 2006, Gladys lived at East Park Villa in Aurora and then Bickford Senior Living in Grand Island.
Gladys was very active in the community.  She was a member of the Central City Friends Meeting House.  She was involved in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Hordville.  She was past Executive Director of the Hordville Housing Authority. She was instrumental in the Hordville Community Club when Hordville won the Class I State Award for Community Improvement.  She was also a Director of First State Bank and Firstand Holding Company.  She served on the Hamilton Community Foundation and Scholarship Committee.  She was also a Scout Den Leader.
Gladys loved reading, birds, quilting, family genealogy, bridge and birthday clubs. She also enjoyed the fall vacations to Colorado, Husker games with the Sampsons, and most of all - she loved her family, especially “her boys”.
She is survived by three sons: Scott and Allison Anderson of Dallas, TX; Bill and Tina Anderson of Hordville; and Jim and Kerstin of Portland, OR; one sister-in-law Betty Rollf of Owasso, OK; one niece Linda and Steve Lee of Owasso, OK;  seven grandchildren: Kristen and Kaley Anderson, Rob Anderson, Melissa and John Coburn, Greta and Linnea Anderson; 2 great grandchildren Evan and Kyle Coburn.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dick Anderson and one grandson Rick Anderson.
