Ardis "Ardy" Wiese

Ardis “Ardy” Wiese, age 82, of Doniphan passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Grand Island. Reverend Bill Pavuk will officiate.  Burial will be held at West Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Ardis was born in Hardy, on May 20, 1935 to Art and Ethel (Wilson) Nelson. The family moved to a farm south of Alda in 1937. Ardis attended District 6 grade school where she met the love of her life, Ronald, in the 3rd grade. Ardis graduated from Wood River High School in 1953. After graduation, Ardis worked for the Hall County Superintendent’s office.
On November 8th, 1955, Ardis and Ronald J. Wiese were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island before moving to an acreage northeast of Doniphan in 1970.
Ardis was a devoted mother homemaker, grandmother, volunteer and friend. She was active in several quilt groups, a Stuhr Museum volunteer, Hall County Fair volunteer in the flower and produce divisions, a State Fair volunteer and a Children’s Groundwater Festival volunteer. Ardis was a longtime member of the Galaxy Gals extension club, the Platte Duetsche Ladies’ Society and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1954 where she volunteered and later served as director of senior activities. With her husband, Ron, she was very active in Ducks Unlimited at the state and local level and at the Central Nebraska Council on Alcoholism.
Ardis enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, growing flowers, shopping, and get-togethers with her friends and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her laugh and her caring heart.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years, Ron, and her children, Rhonda (Ken) Winfrey of Hastings, Mike (Rachel) Wiese of Alameda, Calif. and Tami (Adam) Valencia of Alda; grandchildren, Nick Winfrey and Jake Winfrey, both of Omaha; Andrew (Nya) Wiese of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Colin O’ Shaughnessy Wiese of Seattle, Wash.; Jessica Norton of Alameda, Calif.; Abby, Evan, Katie, Georgia, Luke and Graciella Ardis Valencia of Alda; and great-granddaughter, Harper Wiese of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Ardis is also survived by her sister, Elnora Weinrich of Alda; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Verna (Nelson) Hamilton of Cody, Wyo.; Jack Wiese of Grand Island; Joyce and Harold Sheen of Kearney; Connie and C.B. McQuistan of Fremont and many nieces and nephews and good friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Art and Ethel Nelson; Ron’s parents, Fred and Dora Wiese; her brother, Gerald Nelson; her sister-in-law, Bea Wiese; her brother-in-law, Dale Weinrich; and nephew, John Wiese.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the GRACE Foundation (Grand Island Area Cancer Endowment), Stuhr Museum’s Educational Programs for Children and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
