Raymond A. Friesen
Raymond A. Friesen, age 94, died on April 15, 2017 at the Henderson Care Center. His family was able to spend time with him before his death and will miss him greatly. Ray understood the importance of a relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He had listed some of his favorite scripture passages in the front of his Bible. I Thessalonians 4:14 clearly states what Ray believed: “We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with. Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.”
Ray was born November 18, 1922 to Frank and Agatha (Harder) Friesen in Munich, North Dakota.
Ray lived his early life in the Devils Lake area and later in O’Neill, before his parents settled in Aurora. He graduated from Henderson High School in May of 1942.
Upon Ray’s confession of faith in Jesus Christ he was baptized by Rev. A.W. Friesen at the Bethesda Mennonite Church on December 27, 1942. He was a lifelong member of the Bethesda Mennonite Church.
He sang in the men’s chorus for 34 years and toured with them as they took choir trips. He also taught a freshman boys Sunday School class as well as being involved in many other church activities.
Dad was married to Mom (Martha R. Friesen) on September 6, 1946 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church by Reverend A.W. Friesen. He and Mom lived on farms at Bradshaw and Aurora before retiring to their home in Henderson in 1985. They were married for 69 years.
Dad and Mom worked together on the farm. Dad was in charge of the farm but Mom was in charge of the house. They had a great partnership and exemplified married life for their kids. Besides farming, Ray had a corn sheller for a number of years and shelled corn for his friends and neighbors in the area.
After leaving the farm Ray worked for the Henderson Community Schools for over 20 years. Ray devoted himself to his God, his wife, his kids, and his work.
Ray was preceded in death by his loving wife Martha. He is survived by his sons Ralph (Kathy), Ken (Carol), and daughters Emily (Murray) Ries, and LaDonna (Roger) Miller; grandchildren: Larissa (Craig) Lokey, Barrett (Dewi) Friesen, Nick (Amy) Friesen, Calli (Rory) Morgan, Leeann (Adam) Smith, Keenan (Elizabeth) Friesen, Bennett Friesen, Michelle (Darren) Bernaix, Shannon Parsons, Kyle (Mary) Parsons, Courtney (Pablo) Vazquez, Ashley (Rob) Pray, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren .
Also surviving Ray are his sister Betty Braun, brother-in-law Elmer Friesen, and sisters-in-law Nina Heiser, Jennie Friesen , Alvina (L.G.) Devolt, and Norma Friesen.
