Doris Sundermeier, 89, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Tiffany Square in Grand Island. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Pavak officiating. Burial will be at the Phillips Cemetery following the lunch. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home with family present. Doris Marie Katheran Brehm was born December 28, 1927, at Grand Island to John and Pauline (Feierstien) Brehm. She received her education in the Grand Island schools, and graduated from GISH in the class of 1946. During her high school years, she worked in the Dime Store, Hestes, and the Dave Kuafman’s Store.
On March 12, 1947, she married Merle Sundermeier at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. She helped Merle on the farms south of Phillips, and did chores daily. She raised a large flock of chickens and tended a large garden. They lived on the farm until 2007, when they moved into town.
Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She loved cooking and traveling with Merle. They were able to see many states and countries during their travels.
Survivors of the immediate family include sons: Bill (Pam) Sundermeier of Grand Island, David (Shirley) Sundermeier of Johnson Lake; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; sister: Phyllis Hongsermeier of Grand Island.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merle in 2012; brother, Elmer; and sister, Florine McMahan, and brother-in-law, Roger Hongsermeier.
