Demolition delayed in Hampton

Demolition of an abandoned home will have to wait another month in Hampton after village board members learned that they cannot legally burn a home the city does not own.
Having prepared for more than a year to remove a rundown house located at 233 N 3rd St., the board was prepared to burn the structure down this month as the first property to go all the way through the village’s nuisance abatement program. Board chairman Dane Schafer reported Monday night, however, that the fire marshal changed those plans. For a detailed report, see this week's print or e-editions.
