Hampton voters approve school, gym

Hampton patrons gave two thumbs up for their school Tuesday.
By a vote of 253 for and 160 against (61 to 39 percent), voters said yes to a $5 million proposal to renovate the existing school facilities.
By a closer margin of 218 votes for and 196 against (53 to 47 percent) those same voters also approved a plan to spend up to $2.25 million on a new competition gymnasium to be built on the same site.
The outcome came as welcome news to a crowd at the Hampton Auditorium, where community members gathered to hear the results, together.
“Obviously, we’re very excited with the patrons’ vote of confidence to move forward with the projects,” said Supt. Holly Herzberg. “We are a real community-based group and we respect each other, so we wanted to be together when the results came in.”
