Walter McConnell, age 71, of Aurora, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Omaha.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 27 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Walter Clark McConnell, the son of Roy and Mary (Herrst) McConnell, was born at Yale, Michigan on September 10, 1944 and passed away in Omaha, on January 22, 2016, at the age of 71.
Walter grew up and graduated from high school in Yale, Michigan.  He then enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, where he served for four years before honorably discharged June 1966.  When he returned from the service, Walter worked at a Ford Garage in Yale.

On November 20, 1994, Walter married Kathy Mick at St. Peter Lutheran Church at Hampton. Walter worked as a forklift operator at York Cold Storage since 1993.
Walter was a member of AA and St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Joann.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy of Aurora; son, Elwood (Laura) McConnell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; daughter, Melinda (Jeff) Hill of Port Huron, Michigan; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Ruth (Ed) Green of Port Huron, Michigan, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
