Martina Louise Petersen

Martina Louise Petersen, daughter of Ardean and Leone Petersen, was born July 8, 1941 in Aurora, and died January 3, 2016 at her home in Reno, Nevada.  She graduated from Hampton High School in 1959, attended the University of Nebraska, graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston University and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from DePaul University in Chicago, and was a Doctoral Candidate in Education from Oklahoma State University.  She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Xi Chapter, at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national nursing honorary society, from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Marti had a long and varied career in nursing, working as a staff nurse, staff developer, nursing administrator, and home health care nurse in Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Reno, retiring from nursing in 2006.  She was a life-long Nebraska Cornhuskers fan (her dad, Ardean, played football there), and was a fan of the Golden State Warriors the past two years. She also enjoyed playing in several Reno social bridge groups and playing in tournaments with her sister, Joni.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardean Petersen and Leone Petersen Roxberg; her grandparents, Soren and Marie Petersen of Hampton, and Leo and Mamie Curie Ketterer of Omaha.  
She is survived by her sister, Joan (Joni) Petersen Smith of San Jose, California; her nephew, Steven Petersen Smith and Annabel Tran of Los Angeles, California; her special family, Herb and Jean Peters of Aurora, and a host of family and friends.  
A memorial service will be held in the spring.  Inurnment will be at the United Lutheran Church cemetery in Hampton.  If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
