Gerald Frederiksen - February 12, 2014Gerald Frederiksen, age 85, of Grand Island, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Interment will be in Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
Gerald Dean Frederiksen, the son of Guy and Mabel (Heinemann) Frederiksen, was born at St. Paul, Nebr. on May 27, 1928 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebr. on Feb. 12, 2014, at the age of 85.
Gerald grew up in the St. Paul area until his family moved to California for several years. When the family returned to Giltner, Gerald attended Giltner High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and Korea.
Gerald was married to June Eastman on Oct. 7, 1947. He worked for Chief Industries for several years. Gerald had a trucking business he ran during harvesting. Later he worked for construction with both steel and wood, but was a jack of all trades.
Gerald belonged to the Platte Duetche and the American Legion Club.
He was preceded in death by his baby brother, Merle; his mother Mabel; his grandsons, Tony and Joe Phelan and recently his father, Guy.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, June of Grand Island; son, Gary Frederiksen of Arizona; daughter, Judy Frederiksen of Kansas; 2 grandchildren, Cory Frederiksen of Grand Island and Nicole (Phil) Stewart of Kansas; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Phyllis) Frederiksen of Grand Island; Butch (Linda) Fox of Texas, who was raised like a brother to Gerald and many nieces and nephews.
