Janice Bengtson - January 31, 2014Janice Bengtson, age 68, of Aurora, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at her home in Aurora.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sheryl Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Hordville Cemetery at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora, 415 S. 18th Street. Janice Marie Bengtson, the daughter of Harry and Hannah (Larson) Anderson, was born in Stromsburg, Nebr. on Aug. 1, 1945 and passed away in Aurora, Nebr. on Jan. 31, 2014, at the age of 68.
She grew up on a farm in the Polk area and graduated from Polk High School in 1963. Following her graduation she attended Nebraska Wesleyan and Kearney State College where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Special Education.
Janice was united in marriage to Larry Bengtson on June 17, 1967 at the Friedham Lutheran Church. Following their marriage they lived in Kearney and Shelby where she taught special education. In 1973 they moved to Grand Island where she worked as a home bound teacher. She received her Master’s Degree in Counseling in 2008. Janice worked as an education consultant and counselor at Centura Public Schools in Cairo, Nebraska until her retirement. Following her retirement they moved to Aurora.
Janice was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa and the Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island where she was active in her church where she served in many capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Larry of Aurora; daughters, Keri (Reggie) Ryder of Lincoln and Shana (Braxton) Merrihew of Aurora; son, Brent (Lori) Bengtson of Kearney; grandchildren, Trevin and Avery Ryder, Naela, Tainee and Kenna Merrihew and Kaitlyn and Matthew Bengtson; brother Harold Anderson of Stromsburg and sisters Dee (Galen) Sterner of Doniphan and Dottie (Gary) Rasmussen of Parker, Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews.
