Dorthea McHenry, age 96, of Aurora, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 10 at Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Sister Mary Arie will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Dorthea Alvina McHenry, the daughter of Paul and Alma (Salchow) Klawonn, was born in rural York County on Oct. 20, 1912 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on July 6, 2009, at the age of 96.
Dorthea attended Zion Lutheran School through the 8th grade near Hampton. She worked as a domestic home service provider for several years.
Dorthea was married to Lloyd McHenry on Jan. 20, 1935 in Kansas. The couple lived at Bridgeport on the Hansen ranch as farm and ranch workers. They started farming near Polk, then later moved to Marquette to farm. They farmed there a few years before purchasing their own farm northeast of Aurora.
Lloyd passed away on April 22, 1976. Dorothy lived on the farm until reaching the age of 95. She enjoyed her retirement there, while remaining active with farming. She recently moved to Memorial Community Care in Aurora.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Clayton; infant daughter, June Joy; two brothers, Art and Harold Klawonn; sister, Melvina Hilligas and three infant grandchildren, Jeffery, Timothy and Jan McHenry.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (David) Hegy of Crystal Lake, Ill. and Ann (Jerry) Lentz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son, Douglas L. (Linda) McHenry of Hampton; nine grandchildren, Micheal Hegy of Weston, Fla., Deborah Alexander of Crystal Lake, Ill., Christopher Hegy of Clearfield, Utah, Todd Hegy of Lafayette, Calif., Marty McHenry of Sugar Land, Texas, Jeffrey Lentz of Iowa, Troy Lentz of Iowa, Michelle McHenry of Grand Island and Korey McHenry of Aurora; and 14 great-grandchildren.
