Raymond J. Sabata - January 23, 2014


Raymond J. Sabata, age 74, of Kronborg, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2014, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Jan. 27th at St. John Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Rev. Brian Krause will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made in care of family. Raymond J. Sabata, the son of Joseph B. and Alice E. (Koza) Sabata, was born on a farm in Butler County, Nebraska on Oct. 7, 1939 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebr. on Jan. 23, 2014, at the age of 74.
Ray grew up in Butler County. He attended country school #88 and David City High School.
Ray was united in marriage to Linda Jo Baer on Jan. 25, 1963 at Kearney. Ray worked as a mechanic, tool & die worker, drove a school bus and a welder. Linda passed away on July 25, 2007.
Ray enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed twenty years of racing from 1954-74. Ray especially liked spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Marvin and Lyle and family dogs, Scooter and Oogie.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Randy (Donna) Sabata of Aurora, Debbie Smith of Hordville and Bill (Michelle) Sabata of Aurora; 9 grandchildren, Eric (Tanya), Adam, Jeremy, Josh, Kelsey, Tanya, Bobby, Allie and Sami and 4 great-grandchildren, Jazmin and Trey Moellenberndt, MaKinlee Sabata and Baylinn Rollins. He is also survived two brothers, LeRoy Sabata of Garden City, Kansas and Russell Sabata of Polk and sister, Shirley (Woody) Wittulski of Hordville.
