Doris Titman - December 26, 2013

Doris L. Titman, age 88, of Aurora died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at Hamilton Manor.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 18 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Pastor Mary Scott will officiate. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at
Doris Loraine Titman, the daughter of Fred and Wilhemenia (Pepperkorn) Schafer, was born in Hubbell on Feb. 4, 1925.
She was grew up in Hubbell. When she was little her family moved to Gilead, where she attended through the 11th grade. The family moved to Superior, where she graduated. After graduation she moved to York, where she met her husband, Ray Titman.
They were married on April 1, 1946, in Belleville, Kan. They moved to Lincoln, where Ray worked for an electric company. They moved back to Aurora, where she worked for Aurora High School as a secretary. Ray and Doris bought the Jack and Jill store in 1958. Doris worked side by side with her husband for 17 years in Ray’s Jack and Jill until they sold it in 1976. She then worked for Ellis Pharmacy as the bookkeeper until she retired. She also worked for the daughter and son-in-law, John and Kim, for 12th Street Liquor until it sold.
Doris was an avid Aurora volleyball fan as she watched her granddaughter and all her teammates play through their high school years. She readily babysat for all her granddaughters and spoiled them immensely. She also enjoyed dancing at the Liederkrantz, The Eagles Club and the Flying V. Mostly she enjoyed her life and loved her family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; two brothers, Robert and Rodney Schafer; sister, Francis Collingham and infant sister, Cheryl Schafer.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Patricia (Vince) Gill of North Platte and Kimberly (John) Crawford of Aurora; five grandchildren, Kari (Patrick) Wood, Tiffany (Justin) Shavlik, Samantha (Andy) Palensky, Bryan (Tiffany) Gill and Danielle (Eric) Klein; 11 great-grandchildren, Ty and Bailey Wood, Aidan, Porter & Ivy Shavlik, Paxton Palensky, Nyah Gill, Carter, Taylor, Blake and Kendall Klein and sister, Rose Ann (Robert) Anderson of Guernsey, Wyo.
