Evelyn L. Carlson - October 27, 2013

Evelyn L. Carlson, 92, of Aurora and formerly of Hordville, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 31st at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Solt Funeral Home in Central City with Rev. Bill Stearns officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is in the Hordville Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.soltfh.com
Evelyn was born on April 5, 1921, in Hamilton County to John H. and Emma (Reed) Reed. She grew up in Hamilton County, attended Hamilton County District 1 School and graduated from Aurora High School. On Jan. 17, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Glen L. Carlson in Aurora. They made their home near Hordville, where they farmed. They moved into Hordville in 1962. Evelyn worked at the Hordville Schools as a cook and a custodian for more than 30 years. In about 1998, she moved to Aurora to be near Glen who was living at Aurora Long Term Care. Glen died Sept. 2, 2001, and Evelyn continued to live in her home in Aurora until her death.
Evelyn was a member of the Mamre Evangelical Free Church near Marquette, and she attended Faith Community Church in Aurora and the Farmers’ Valley Cemetery Association. She enjoyed reading, sewing and was an excellent baker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dale and Pat Carlson of Central City; Larry and Karen Carlson of Bassett; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Carlson of York; seven grandchildren, Wendy Carlson, Heather Hauptman, Ron Carlson, Tami Scamehorn, Mike Carlson, Laurie Fox, and Chad Carlson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Those preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her son, Don in 2009; a great-great-grandson in 2012; and her brother, Deryl Reed.
