Charles Olsen - September 22, 2013

Charles “Chuck” R. Olsen, 61, of Mesa, Ariz., died in Mesa on Sept. 22, 2013. Graveside memorial services will be Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the United Lutheran Cemetery north of Hampton with the Rev. Chris Kester-Beyer officiating. Husker attire is requested for the service. Full military rites will be conducted by the Hampton American Legion. Memorials are suggested to the family. Chuck was born to Roy and Cleo (Steinke) Olsen in Holdrege on Oct. 28, 1951. He was a 1970 graduate of Hampton High School and served in the United States Navy for four years. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Chuck lived and worked in New Bedford, Mass.; Lincoln; and Washington state, before moving to Mesa. Chuck received his master’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix and at his passing was employed at AmSafe Corporation in Phoenix as a quality control manager. Chuck was united in marriage to Ceci Thunert on Dec. 18, 1993; and they adopted their children, Ashley and Derreck. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Chuck was proud to have been born in Nebraska and raised in Hampton, and he remained a loyal Husker fan. Chuck was a member of American Legion Post 2 in Tempe, Arizona. He loved reading, mainly the Bible and books on history. He also enjoyed his Scotch and made oyster stew that was second only to his Mom’s.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ceci, and his children, Ashley and Derreck, all of Mesa; two brothers, Tom Olsen of Aurora and Mark and Damaris Olsen of Hampton; his sister, Kathy Flynn of Lincoln; and sister-in-law, Sarah of Texas, numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Scott.
