Bethel Kolar, age 81, of Aurora, died Thursday, Oct.3, 2013, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 7th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Fr. James Divis will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Altar Society. Bethel Mary Kolar, daughter of Fred and Julia (Van De Walle) Strotman was born on Aug. 20, 1932, at Aurora.
Bethel graduated from Aurora High School in 1950.
She was united in marriage to Jack Lee Oberg on May 11, 1953. To this union three children were born: Danny, Jon and Jacqueline.
Bethel worked various places throughout her life. Her most memorable employment was working for her sister, Leona, at Dick’s Café in Aurora where she became famous for her wonderful pies.
On Nov. 15, 1975, Bethel was united in marriage to Robert “Butch” Kolar. From that time on she was a full-time wife and mother, her most cherished position of all. She loved doing things for her family, from cooking and preparing for the perfect Christmas dinner to remembering every special moment with cards and gifts.
Bethel was a devout Catholic and in her younger years played the organ for the Church. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Jon Oberg, sister, Leona Jensen, sister-in-law, Georgia Strotman and brother-in-law, Gene Jensen.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Danny (Polina) Oberg of Grand Island; daughter, Jacque Harvey of Aurora; grandchildren, Sara, Michael, Georgiy, Tricia, Jenn, Chris, Ben & Julia; great-granddaughter; Ashley; great-grandson, Chase; new great-granddaughter arriving soon; brother, Gene Strotman of Grand Island and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
